Co-curricular activities

Students at St Agatha's benefit from involvement in the many Extra Curricular Activities through physical, social​ and emotional development. We encourage all children to make the most of their time at school and to become actively involved in their community.

Here are some examples of activities on offer that foster a holistic approach to education at St Agatha's Clayfield.

Choir

Students in Years 3 to 6 may join the choir team.  They rehearse weekly on a variety of songs.​​ They learn about pacing, harmony, breathing and pitch and put these skills into practice as they sing at school events and competitions.


Musical Theatre

The Musical Theatre lessons consist of singing, dancing and acting in a fun and creative environment.  These one hour lessons will take place weekly, before and after school.

Prep - Year 2       Friday Mornings 7.30am

Year 3 - Year 6    Friday Afternoons 3pm

BIGs Program St Rita's

St Rita’s College Music Department invites current Year 5 students at St Agatha’s to join our BIGs program for 2021. Beginner Instrumental Groups (BIGs) is a program that caters for students who have not previously had any instruction on a woodwind, brass or orchestral string instrument and would like to commence learning one of these instruments. Students will have the opportunity to learn an instrument through group instruction and will receive music lessons and instrument hire during Terms 1 – 3 in 2021. Lesson times for BIGs students will take place each Tuesday morning from 7:30-8:30am in the St Rita’s College Music Centre during Terms 1 - 3

Strings

All students will learn the rudiments of music by developing their ability to read music (theory) as well as practical skills required to play an instrument.  As their skills develop, students will have the opportunity to sit for music exams with the Australian Music Examination Board AMEB.

Classes are held for 30minutes and are available on Monday and Friday before school from 

(7.30am - 8.30am) and after school (3.00pm to 4.30pm)

Music Instrumental

Our school has a strong commitment to music, private tuition for various musical Instruments and to the development of a School Band. Parents are encouraged to consider providing their children with the opportunity of learning to play a musical instrument. The school also provides opportunities for children to join the junior and senior choirs.

Students will need to purchase their own instruments.

Piano and wind students will be offered the opportunity to take part in the Australian Music Examinations Board exams which take place at St Agatha's mid year.

The lessons will be held for 30minutes on a Monday afternoon, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday morning.

Entrepreneurial Skills Program

​Students have the opportunity in Years 4 to 6 to join a program to learn and practice Entrepreneurial skills: work in teams, generate ideas, create prototypes, understand design thinking, practice public speaking.

GoSports

Students from Prep to Year 6 can join in a variety of before and after school sports classes in Cricket, Soccer and Netball.

Dancefever

Dancefever offers comprehensive programs that not only engages students in fun physical activity but also assesses them according to the Dance strand of the Australian Curriculum from Prep to Year 6 Arts Syllabus.
 

 
 
Leadership Program
Our students in Year 6 make a valuable contribution in being leaders of our school community through school tours, co-ordinating Assembly and being buddies to our Preps.  Promoting a Leadership program for students in Year 6 focuses on developing our students’ with leadership skills through formal leadership training and practical leadership experiences.

 

Sports Training

In the lead up to Swimming, Athletics & Cross Country carnivals ​students are given opportunities to prepare for school, zone, city district and metropolitan based carnivals.


 

​​Tennis

Fancutts Tennis Centre offers private tennis coaching at St Agatha's Clayfield on a Monday, Tuesday or Thursday afternoon from 3pm to 3.45pm. Private or small group lessons can also be arranged on a Friday afternoon from 3.45pm.

 


NAB AFL AUSKICK

Auskick is a program we offer our students from Prep to Year 6 in Term 2. This is great for kids to build fundamental motor skills and learn what it means to play as part of a team.
