Playground Guidelines

​St. Agatha's provides a duty of care to students both within and outside the classroom.  We strive to provide an environment where the students feel safe, are respected and have opportunities to demonstrate responsibility.

 

GENERAL

  • Students can play games at lunch using equipment from the sports shed trolley and sandpit carts.
  • Teachers carry first aid bags on all duties.
  • Teachers collect children from lines at 8:40am, 11:25am and 1:55pm.
  • As a sun safe school, students must wear a hat anytime they are outside a classroom. Students not wearing a hat must play in the Presentation Centre.
  • Playgrounds are frequently inspected to maintain high safety standards.  
  • Children crossing Oriel Road are expected to follow instructions and show the school rules towards the Department of Transport Lollipop crossing supervisors.
  • Student's bikes are not to be ridden on school grounds.

 

BEFORE SCHOOL - 08:15am-08:40am

·       Duty commences at 8:15am. Any student arriving before 8:15am should be checked into the schools Outside School Hours Care facility.

·       If parents leave their child unsupervised and students do arrive before the teacher, they are to sit on the steps.

·       Students can use hoops, skipping ropes and balls from the sports trolley in the Presentation Centre.

·       The bell will ring at 8:40am and children are to stop playing, and walk to their lines. 

 

FIRST BREAK - 10:45am-11:05am

  • Teachers may be on duty in the following areas; the Presentation Centre, The Fort MacKillop Place and Tennis Court, The Oval or The Library.
  • At 11:05am a bell is rung, students are to stop playing, return sports equipment, collect their lunch box and drink bottle and sit in the Presentation Centre to eat.

FIRST BREAK - 11:05am-11:25am

  • Students are to stay seated in the Presentation Centre and eat their lunch. Students are to ask permission to go to the toilet if required.
  • Two teachers are on duty in the covered area reminding students of expected behaviours.
  • At 11:25am a bell is rung, students are to stop eating, place rubbish in the bin, go to the toilet, get a drink and sit in their class lines.

 

SECOND BREAK - 1:35pm-1:55pm

  • Teachers may be on duty in the following areas; the Presentation Centre, The Fort MacKillop Place and Tennis Court, The Oval or The Library. Students are welcome to eat food in the Presentation Centre. 
  • At 01:55pm a bell is rung, students are to stop playing, work safely together to pack sports equipment away, go to the toilet, get a drink and sit in their class lines.

 

AFTER SCHOOL -CROMBIE STREET 2:55pm – 3:20pm

  • Students leave classrooms and proceed down to Crombie Street Amphitheatre. Students sit down close to fence to wait for their car name to be called a cone number to walk to.
  • Parent Volunteers kindly support students entering vehicles.
  • Teachers return remaining students back to front office at 3:20pm and the office notifies parents. At 3:30pm, students are booked into Outside School Hours Care.

 

AFTER SCHOOL -ORIEL ROAD 2:55pm – 3:15pm

  • Students assemble outside the APAC entrance and wait for teacher.
  • Prep students proceed down to the steps of the Church with the first teacher.
  • The remaining students proceed down to the steps of the Church with the second teacher.
  • Students wait on church steps for either pick-up by parents or may be supported by staff to enter vehicles. Older students are permitted to sit along the front of the brick wall.  
  • At 3:15pm, the teacher brings the remaining students back to the office and parents are notified. At 3:30pm, children are booked into Outside School Hours Care.​
